Sleep deprivation and poor sleep health are pressing national issues. According to the 2015 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), a National survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 20% of Americans routinely sleep less than the recommended 7 to 8 hours.

Sleep deprivation takes a tremendous toll on health, productivity, and alertness, and even places individuals at long-term risk for chronic disease, reduced functioning, and other adverse health risks. Insufficient and poor sleep also takes a toll in the workplace, contributing to poor workplace culture, impaired cognitive functioning, and lower productivity.

Join us for a discussion with the authors of this research-driven, evidence-based program as we pull back the covers on sleep science, and discuss effective strategies for creating a sleep-healthy lifestyle.

Presenter Bio(s):

Laura Grubbs serves as Assistant Director of Health Performance Strategies at Florida Hospital – the largest admitting hospital in America. Laura has enjoyed a career in the healthcare field for many years and has held various positions at Florida Hospital for the past 22 years.
Laura was instrumental in forming the Health Performance Strategies department 4 years ago and is passionate about helping others live their healthiest lives – mind, body and spirit.
Laura holds a BS in Business Management and is a Certified Corporate Wellness Specialist. She makes her home in Orlando Florida with her husband and rescue puppy, Buster. Laura is happiest at the beach and in her free time she enjoys traveling with her husband, yoga and taking long walks with her dog.

Dr. Rebecca Robbins is an internationally recognized sleep expert and researcher. Dr. Robbins received her PhD and MS in health communication, behavior change, and health marketing from Cornell University. In her research, Dr. Robbins explores novel methodologies to help individuals, communities, and cultures develop healthier sleep habits. Her work has appeared in peer reviewed journals such as SLEEP and Health Communication.
Dr. Robbins is the co-author of a book with Dr. James Maas called Sleep for Success! and co-author of a curriculum with Dr. Manoucher Manoucheri called The REST of Your Life. Dr. Robbins has held teaching positions at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and at the Weill Cornell Medical College in Doha, Qatar. She makes frequent media appearances, including interviews on CBS This Morning, FOX Business News, and ABC Nightly News, and has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, the Financial Times, and The New York Times.

Todd Chobotar serves as founder, publisher, and editor-in-chief of the publishing program at Florida Hospital—the largest admitting hospital in America. He is the writer, editor, or publisher of over sixty books, primarily in the areas of holistic health, leadership, and spiritual living. He is the co-author of Creation Health Discovery with over 800,000 copies in print.
