This Intensive Training Seminar is about creating intrinsic, self-determined, motivation and change. At the heart of this Seminar is the concept of “purpose in life” and how the issues we attempt to address – lack of engagement, work-life balance, resilience, stress, productivity, health status, health behaviors, and condition management – are associated with goal-directed life purpose and how they can be improved with more purposeful, goal-directed living.
In this workshop, participants will compose and refine their own purpose in life. They’ll learn about ways of aligning with multiple, and often conflicting, domains of purpose – life balance. They’ll then learn and practice specific behaviors for improving their S.P.A.C.E. – sleep, presence, activity, creativity, and eating – and how aspects of these behaviors can enhance daily energy and willpower required for purpose alignment.
From this personal reflection, participants will learn ways of reaching their own clientele with more purpose-driven, positive, interventions. Data from real-world programs will be presented, discussed and compared with other approaches. Finally, participants will create a purpose-driven health promotion/ care management program.
In addition to stimulating lecture and discussion, participants will go through specific personal exercises to improve a sense of purpose, mindfulness, and creativity. This intensive training seminar is oriented toward both self-improvement and developing the skills and knowledge to help others.
The theoretical approach for the practical framework of this Seminar comes from Self-Determination Theory, Values Affirmation Theory, Motivational Interviewing, and the general field of Positive Psychology. Research of these approaches – ranging from epidemiologic cohort studies to intervention studies in real world settings to mechanistic studies of neural activation and gene expression — provides evidence for specific new intervention strategies for individuals and populations.
This is an opportunity to have in-depth interaction with Dr. Strecher, a teacher and researcher, renowned for his ability to integrate the latest scientific advances of our field into effective training and interventions for real-world practitioners. The subject matter of this Seminar is both scientific and philosophical. Sound fun, ambitious, stimulating, and personally rewarding? Good! Let’s build the future together.
